I Have Been Using the Same Google Meet Link Since 2023

I have been using the same Google Meet link for over three years. It began without much thought and has continued out of habit.

When I arrange a meeting, the question is rarely asked in full. Someone will simply say, “Same link?” and that is enough. On occasion, they do not ask at all. They join it as they would enter a familiar room.

The link itself remains inactive until I arrive. It waits, in a sense, for its purpose. This may not be how it was intended to be used, but it has worked well enough.

Why I continue to use it is not entirely clear to me. Part of it is convenience. Part of it is a reluctance to create something new when the old thing still serves. If a single link can be used repeatedly, it seems unnecessary to replace it.

There is also the question of why the system does not work this way by default. One might expect that a person, having an account, would also have a fixed meeting place. This is not the case.

The reason, as it turns out, is practical. Unique links are created for each meeting to prevent unwanted access and to keep records separate. A single, permanent link would make this more difficult. It would allow people to return uninvited and would blur the boundaries between one meeting and another.

This is sensible, though it runs against the small convenience of having one place for everything.

In any case, I have continued as I began. The same link remains in use. It is not a system I would recommend, nor one I would argue against. It is simply one that has persisted.
